Looking for a select team this spring?

Hello everyone - this is Rob Vertrees

If you're looking for a select team to play on this spring, please shoot me an e-mail. My club, the Northern Kentucky Soccer Academy, has openings on U15, U17 & U18 aged teams. Girls that are U16 aged are allowed to play up on the U17 team.

I can send you all the importnat details if you;'re interested. E-mail me at president@nksoccer.com and I'll get back in touch ASAP.

Thanks
Rob

Play if you can - Note from Coach Eceverria

I’d like to encourage as many of the returning athletes to play soccer during the fall indoor (rec) leagues. Those who play basketball (great!!) or belong to a club team should not worry about joining. But those who are not involved or will not be involved in a club team need to find a means of improving their ball handling skills.

I have a contact for NKYA’s high school division. All you need is $60 per player and a coach. I cannot and will not coach the team. Indoor is a great opportunity to develop foot skills and to improve the passing game. If anyone would like to put together a team (parent volunteer) please use this list to gather the team.

Contact Sipple, Andrea [AndreaS@BermanPrinting.com] if you are interested. She needs to be contacted ASAP if a team can be gathered (the season starts this Sat, but if you are interested she has scheduled the team with a bye this week).

I recommend keeping the team 10-13 players. Teams play on Saturday’s.

Celebrations! Notes from Coach Echeverria

We have a lot to celebrate. Please make plans to attend the banquet. We started the season with 63 girls running around the campus and every parent supporting her athlete in every way possible. I’d love to have the banquet hall complete with the girls, parents, and coaches. A team of 10’s is a team that celebrates together.

Speaking of a ten – the first female athlete inducted to the Ryle Hall of Fame includes Katie Holtzapfel, soccer player. It would be great if parents from the girls soccer program attended this event to promote the sport and the team.

Thank you for your support. Have a great day.

District Week Has Arrived!

Hello Everyone ~It's the start of the most important games of the season... Districts, Regionals, Subsectionals, Sections and State Tournament. The girls have been working very very hard to get to this point. Please come out to support the girls... the Districts are being played on our home turf!!!

Take a look at the schedule that follows for game times and volunteer sign-ups for concessions and gates. If you are now unable to work, it is your responsibility to find a replacement. We will be expecting some big crowds so everyone's assistance and flexibility is appreciated. I'm still looking for help in the concessions at the Championship Game. Let me know if you can assist.

We will be selling baked goods throughout the week. If you can help by bringing brownies, cookies, etc., we'd appreciate it. As a reminder, on Thursday, October 16th (Championship Game), the girl's team will be working the gate and concession for the boy's team. As many of you know, the boys have a t-shirt table, outside concessions, inside concessions, etc. The girls team will ONLY be taking care of the gate and indoor concessions. The boy's team will take care of manning the other tables. The girls are scheduled to play the Championship Game at 5:30 PM. The boys will play at 7:30 PM. Don't be confused by the schedule below for October 16th.

Please contact me if you have any questions or need assistance. I hope to see everyone at the games!

JV Game vs Brossart cancelled

The JV game for tonight has been cancelled. Brossart plays at Pendry Park and there are no lights at the field, they played last night and only got a half played. The coach feels like it may be a waste of time for us to try to play, especially since they are having their Senior Night ceremonies during the Varsity Game.

The JV players should be at the field (Tower Park) by 4:45 tomorrow. I will not be in the building tomorrow if any of the girls have questions but will be available on my cell phone after noon. I will also check email tonight and tomorrow. Directions to Tower Park are below.

Directions to Tower Park Field

Take I-275E to I-471 North

Take Exit #2 Ft. Thomas – Southgate (Rt. 27)

Turn right (towards Ft. Thomas) off exit onto Alexandria Pike (Rt. 27)

Go to second stop light (.7 miles) and turn left onto 445 East (Grandview Avenue)

At the stop sign, turn left onto S. Fort Thomas Avenue

At the first stoplight, turn right onto River Road (still 445)

Turn left at first drive into VA Hospital

Straight onto Carmel Manor Avenue

Turn right onto Army Reserve Road

Turn left into parking lot of Tower Park Field.

Varsity is asked to support the JV at their tournament. See blog for information.

I only want what is better for the team. None of my discipline decisions, have been easy – and I call them discipline decisions rather than disciplinary because they are about the team. I cannot and would not punish athletes for decisions that are both sound and logical. Athletes going on college visits don’t get punished. Instead it is necessary that we consider the team first. On Friday morning, athletes will wake up and come to practice. Many will have to inconvenience parents or grandparents to make it to practice. On Saturday athletes will have to go through the same support system to find a way to campus. They come to practice because they are athletes. They come to practice because they believe in their team, Ryle’s team.

At no point do I question any athlete’s commitment to the team, but it is my job to implement policies that guarantee that no one ever does. So, I know that a few girls have struggled between going to practice or at tending college visits. This would not be an issue were we not at the precipice of our tournament. The language and tone for the team should not resonate with a closure, we are not at the end of the season – we are at the beginning of everything we have been working towards. The loop runs, the bleachers, the discipline lessons; everything has been to prepare the athletes for the games of next week, and the weeks ahead of that.

I will be at Ryle at 7AM – on Monday morning for a jog and practice session. I welcome volunteers and the three seniors affected by the policy. The attendance of the team is NOT required; the attendance of those three seniors is also NOT required. Attendance in this AM session will substitute for the missed practices (only to those athletes with whom I’ve talked to). Please be prompt, as you know my policy with practices.

Coach Echeverria

Upcoming Activities

TO: ALL RYLE LADY RAIDER PARENTS AND PLAYERS

I wanted to send an update on some of the upcoming events:

* Homecoming Parade - The parade is scheduled for October 17th. We are in need of trailers to transport the teams along the parade route. If you have a trailer that we can borrow, please let me or Anita Call know ASAP. We'd like to secure one trailer per team, if possible. The trailer(s) will be decorated a day or two prior to the parade. ALL girls from ALL teams should plan to participate. We ask that each player bring two bags of wrapped candy to throw to the crowd. Anita Call will be organizing the group... more information to follow.

* Banquet - The invitations for the team banquet will be distributed by the end of the week, if you've not already received one. Please help us celebrate the Lady Raiders 2008 Soccer Season at Receptions Banquet Center, 1379 Donaldson Road, Erlanger, KY on November 13 @ 6:00 PM. The banquet cost for parents, siblings, friends and guests is $15/person. There will be NO cost to the players or coaches. Please make all checks payable to RHS Girls Soccer. Payment should be given or sent to Pat Alleman, 1307 Fireside Court, Union, KY 41091 NO LATER THAN November 3, 2008.

* District Tournament - The Varsity team will play in the District Tournament beginning on Monday, October 13th. The girls' team is responsible to cover ALL girls' games scheduled to play. I have 5 slots left to fill... one opening for Wednesday, October 15 @ 7:30 and four openings for the Championship Game on Thursday, October 16 @ 5:30 PM. At this time, only two freshman parents have volunteered so any assistance from the Freshman parents would be very helpful. Any parent from any team can assist in the concession stand. Please consider getting involved and helping.

* District Tournament - Coach Echeverria sent out the ball girl assignments for the district tournament earlier today. Please make sure you/your player(s) look at the schedule for the assigned games. As noted in Coach's email, players are required to be present on assigned dates and time. If the player cannot be at the field as assigned, it is the responsibility of the player and parent to make substitution arrangements.

* JV Tournament - The JV tournament is scheduled for the weekend of October 9-11. The Ryle Lady Raiders will play their first game at Tower Park beginning at 5:30 PM. Please make plans to go out and support the team.

Please contact me if you have any questions. I appreciate everyone's assistance, flexibility and patience. GO RAIDERS!!

Notes from the Coach - 10/7

First of all, thank you to all the parents for the wonderful support you’ve given the soccer program and the athletes. Our season has been a good one. The freshman team finished their season and I’d like acknowledge their great season. I will continue to work on getting more games added for next year, but it is difficult to add games in August. Most scheduling takes place in November, so this year I will have a direct role in that process.

JV has their tournament this week and besides wishing them the best of luck, I’d also like to have the teams come out and support the girls. Varsity athletes will be asked to attend and support the team after our practice.

Varsity begins District playoffs Monday Oct 13. I know that many of you have already volunteered, but we need more help. JV and Freshman parents please sign up. I also ask the parents and players in the JV and Freshman team to look over the list of ball runners for each game. We are required to provide four (4) runners for each game. I’ve assigned the players from the freshman and JV teams; players must be present on assigned dates and times. If a player cannot be there it is the responsibility of the player and the parent to make substitution arrangements.

There is a good chance that we will host Regionals (winner of the District) and we would need more parent involvement. Let’s handle Districts and then we’ll worry about Regionals

Thank you,
Coach Edmundo Echeverria
